About this site

This site is a demo for the theme made by Erik Lawler, a theme for writers who want their blog to read like a book. It already exists for Pelican and Hugo — this repo is the VitePress implementation. Grateful to lawler.io and https://marvin.beckers.dev/ for the inspiration.

Lawler Marvin's theme

What's in the theme

  • Tufte-style sidenotes — footnotes live in the margin on desktop and collapse into a tap-to-expand note inline on mobile, no plugin configuration required.
  • A writing-first layout — a paginated post archive, tags, categories, and a custom :::writing container for pulling a passage out of the normal flow.
  • Classic book typography — serif type, generous line-height, and epigraph styling for quoting other work.
  • Responsive down to the smallest phones — the two-column desktop layout (avatar/nav column + content) collapses cleanly into a single stacked column, tuned breakpoint by breakpoint rather than just squeezed to fit.
